My full name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik (Not that anyone’s ever asked), while my supervillain alias is “Dr. Eggman.” With all the egg-themed weaponry that I employ, it seemed appropriate, no? It’s really as simple as that; I use the alias “Eggman” because I regularly use eggs as the thematic base for my inventions (the Eggmobile, the Death Egg, you get the idea).

My family name is still Robotnik, and I certainly haven’t changed that; Supreme genius runs in my lineage, after all, and I take great pride in the Robotnik family name!

Bottom line: Both names are correct! Whether you say “Dr. Eggman” or “Dr. Robotnik,” you’re talking about me, the greatest scientific genius of the world! Ooh hoo hoo!

Out of Character: (He was always ”Dr. Eggman” in Japan, guys! SA2 nicely tied the two stories together, making “Robotnik” his surname and “Eggman” an alias, but the name was always used in Japan, and that’s why the games- and this blog- primarily refer to him as Eggman. Hope that clears that up!)
